Lazio
lying between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Apennines, from Tuscan Maremma to Gaeta, is the cradle of Roman civilization and a good deal more.The homeland of the Etruscans, with the archaeological sites of Tarquinia and Cerveteri and the fine old city of Viterbo, important Renaissance villas and gardens at Caprarola and Tivoli, and major Roman ruins at Ostia Antica and Tivoli, not to mention Rome itself. Lazio is on a pretty stretch of coast to the south of Rome between Cape Circeo and Formia.
