Veneto covers the area from Lake Garda to Venice with the lovely cities of Padua, Vicenza, Romeo and Juliet's Verona, and the charming city of Treviso in between. Magnificent villas and castles, built for Venetian patricians dot the landscape. The Dolomite mountains with Italy's premier skiing area is to the north. From Lake Garda through the green Euganean Hills near Padua to Venice, wines such as Amarone, Bardolino, and Soave are produced. Venice is the romantic city frozen in time with its lagoons, canals, palazzi and museums. Polenta and risotto are more common than pasta and there is a huge variety of seafood in Venice. Game, salamis and wild mushrooms are renowned on the mainland.
